Mrs. Madrid is an alumna of California State University, San Jose and California State University, Sacramento, earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree and a Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential. Helping students navigate the college admissions process and assisting them in realizing their educational goal is her passion.

Mr. Padilla is entering his 4th year with Edison's Counseling Department and his 6th year working for SUSD, previously as a paraprofessional. He grew up in Stockton attending SUSD schools K-12 and is a graduate of Franklin High School. He earned his A.A. in Social Sciences from Sacramento City College before transferring to CSU Sacramento, where he earned a BA in Child Development with a minor in Counseling. Mr. Padilla then earned his graduate degree in Educational Counseling with a PPS credential from National University in Stockton. -

jdperez@stocktonusd.netMr. Perez has been a member of Edison’s counseling team for the past 12 years. He grew up in Stockton attending SUSD schools K-12 and is a graduate of Franklin High School’s class of ’95. Mr. Perez earned his BA in Psychology at Stanislaus State in 2000 and his PPS credential from the University of La Verne in 2003. He became a counselor because he enjoys working with young people and helping them through their journals into adulthood. In his spare time, Mr. Perez enjoys spending time with family, watching sports, coaching, exercising and reading.

jsnelson@stocktonusd.netMr. Justin Nelson is proud to be a member of Edison High School’s Counseling Department. He earned his BA in Criminal Justice at CSU Stanislaus (1999), as well as his MA (2003) in Education and PPS Credential (2001) in School Counseling. Mr. Nelson is in his 20th year of counseling in Stockton Unified having also worked at Kennedy Elementary and Cesar Chavez High School. He loves working with students to achieve their goals and become productive citizens with a strong work ethic. He is also a proud father as of December 11, 2019 and enjoys traveling with his family.

jgomez@stocktonusd.netMrs. Gomez is entering her 6th year in education and her 2nd year as a school counselor. She earned her BS in Biological Sciences from UC Merced in 2023 and master's degree in School Counseling in 2025 through Fresno Pacific University. Currently, she is attending CSU Channel Islands for her doctorate in Educational Leadership for Equity and Justice. Mrs. G is passionate about helping students plan out their future and navigate systems of higher education.

jhigginbotham@stocktonusd.netMs. Higginbotham started her counseling career at Edison High School in '97 and worked there and at Hamilton Middle School for 9 years. She then worked as a high school counselor in Idaho and California for a few years before returning to Stockton Unified in 2012. Ms. Higginbotham earned her BA at CSU Stanislaus and her MS/PPS at University of LaVerne. She enjoys working with teenagers, and her favorite part is supporting and encouraging students as well as working with their families. Ms. Higginbotham has two daughters and she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.

bgreenwood@stocktonusd.netMrs. Greenwood has been a counselor at Edison for 23 years. In addition to her caseload she is the contact person for Project Lead the Way (PLTW). She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from CSU Stanislaus and Masters in School Counseling from Sacramento State. She has been the Counseling Department Chairperson since 2006.
